Take QuizRegan Grimes won’t compete again until the Olympia at the end of the year. Grimes and his coach Milos Sarcev took to Youtube to announce the decision to sit out the rest of the bodybuilding shows this year while they focus on preparation for the 2022 Olympia set to take place in Las Vegas from December 15-18th.
Regan Grimes is one of the more popular bodybuilders on the scene today, with a big social media following. He rose to popularity in part after he was featured in the film Generation Iron 3.
After two disappointing finishes to start off 2022, Regan Grimes has decided that it’s best to take the rest of the year off so he can improve his weak areas before 2022 Olympia.
At the 2022 Arnold Classic, Grimes placed 7th, and just last week at the 2022 Boston Pro, Grimes once again had a less than stellar performance where he came in 7th as well.
However, last year was a terrific year for Grimes, who won the 2021 Egypt Pro and the 2021 KO Bodybuilding Pro, where he qualified to compete in the 2022 Olympia.
Regan sought to make a statement in his first Arnold appearance, but he fell short. In the video he posted on his YouTube channel, we get an explanation as to why they’ve decided to sit out the rest of this year’s shows until the Olympia.
In the video, we get an explanation about why Grimes had a lackluster performance in the last two shows. In December, Sarcev contracted Covid and unintentionally passed it on to Grimes at Powerhouse Gym in Las Vegas.
Once Grimes got Covid, his prep for the shows fell off as he couldn’t train hard due to the toll the virus took on him. The lack of intense training combined with a keto diet of 17 days meant he didn’t get the best out of his sessions.
Grimes says he never would drop a commitment, so he competed in the Arnold and the Boston Pro. Grimes doesn’t cancel his shows. it's worth noting that 5 athletes dropped out of the Arnold Classic last minute, maybe he should’ve also swallowed his pride a bit. However, we think his no-quit mentality is a rare quality these days and will lead him to doing big things in the sport.
At the end of the day, Grimes isn’t making any excuses for how he finished in his shows and that he’ll take these experiences as lessons learned. This is just a bump in the road, and he has a positive mindset going forward. Grimes will have to pack on some 10-15 pounds of muscle to really compete for the Olympia title.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Grimes is one of the most well-liked bodybuilders for good reason; he has a great attitude, work ethic, and aesthetics. Grimes will be a true contender with the right progress, at only 27 years old, the sky’s the limit for him. We can’t wait to see what he can bring to the stage 9 months from now when he competes at the Olympia in December 2022.
